Tips and Tricks Picked Up in my Author Journey (1): Write More Than One Book At a Time
Now this one is tricky. But it works, especially if you are a fantasy or a series-type author.
It doesn’t strictly apply to literary works as much but it can if used properly. I ran across this advice on a YouTube channel (The Plot Genie). I am a literary novelist (for now) myself and this is a practice I discovered organically. When I was writing my first (and at the time of this post, my only) novel, I realized some ideas I had could not be immediately used for my work: The Children of a Better God. But, they were too good to be discarded. And thus a light bulb went off. I opened (what I term) an idea’s dump page where I parked these ideas.
In fact, some were so good they formed the basis for another novel. Goodness only knows when that book will be done. At the (snail) speed at which I write.
But it’s such a good tip.
And of course, like I noted. It works in fantasy or in a series. Now, I must mention that the possible downside is that the two (or more) works may contain a similar theme, strain of thoughts or voice.
You are welcome!
